LEC for the Digital Educator

Page history last edited by Ewalters 8 years, 6 months ago

Are you interested in learning how to integrate technology into your curriculum, but unsure where to start, or are you already teaching and want to enhance your skills? The Leading Edge Alliance, county offices of education, a group of nonprofits, universities and governmental bodies have developed a certification program for K-12 teachers.  Leading Edge Certification for the Digital Educator is geared toward classroom teachers and is based on the National Education Technology Plan, Common Core State Standards, and the ISTE Standards for Teachers (formerly NETS-T). LEC Digital Educator consists of eight modules taught in a combination of synchronous and asynchronous trainings.

Upon completion of LEC Digital Educator Certification, educators will be able to identify, define and put into practice what it means to be an effective Digital Educator. The LEC Digital Educator curriculum includes modules such as  Pedagogy, Digital Literacy and Citizenship, Data Literacy, Curation and Creation, Communication and Collaboration, and Learning Environments.    Participants will create and teach a classroom lesson plan based upon each module's content. The 8-week course culminates with an electronic portfolio that showcases how participants will create an optimal learning environment utilizing their own pedagogical philosophy with the content and technology from the LEC Digital Educator certification program.

Time to complete the curriculum is estimated at 45-60 hours, including portfolio work, but will vary based on participants’ experience with the tools used.

Participants should be Internet proficient prior to attending the class:

Technology Requirements:

  • Access to a device that can connect to the Internet
  • Access to high speed Internet connection
  • Microphone
  • Webcam

Upon successful completion of your online portfolio, participants will earn a nationally recognized Online Teacher certificate through Leading Edge.
